Welcome to today’s reflection. As we traverse Advent together, let’s pause to look back.

Before angels sing and shepherds arrive, Scripture invites us to slow down and remember the long line of ordinary people who carried hope forward, name by name, until the world was ready.

The genealogies of the Bible are something I always used to skip over quickly. Let’s face it, they are just lists of names we will probably never find out about.

Then one day, somebody asked me about the genealogies of the gospels, pointing out what they thought were inconsistencies. This started me off on a journey that branched out into some serious number geekery.

I now think the genealogies are inspiring.
