Jesus Wept (Jésus pleura) By James Tissot — Online Collection of Brooklyn Museum; Photo: Brooklyn Museum, 2007, 00.159.182_PS2.jpg, Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=10904518

Welcome to today’s reflection.

The shortest verse in the bible is ‘Jesus Wept’ (John 11:35). I reflect here on how this verse might be short, but it is also one of the most powerful.

Jesus wept.

Outside his friend Lazarus’ tomb that day, the crowd was wailing. His sisters, Mary and Martha, were distraught. Shock resounded around that tomb.

He was dead.

Jesus had been called for; he knew he could help. He would help. Yet as he walked up to the tomb, what was his reaction?
