There might be no people there, but I bet there are still arguments at the PCC meeting 😉

That book of yours may outlast the Internet, which seems increasingly to be in peril from the AI catastrophe in progress. The deliberate shredding of published books in the feeding of that behemoth is one of the atrocities of this generation. I think often of a new Dark Ages that may be descending. Those of us who have been privileged with opportunities for reading carry a treasure in our brains that inevitably colours everything we think, say, and decide to do. That legacy, as you point out, is being passed on even when we least suspect it. These golden threads of love, righteousness, and godliness are being woven through societies and cultures. The darkness does not comprehend it. The Light gradually overcomes it.

Thank you, Laurna. I rather love the thought that the book might outlast the Internet — although I hope we are not quite heading into a new Dark Ages yet!

What you say about reading leaving treasure in us really resonates with me. We absorb words, stories and ideas over a lifetime, and eventually they become part of the way we see the world. Often, we can no longer remember where a particular thought first came from, but it has still shaped us.

I think that is one of the great gifts of books. They allow one generation to place something into the hands of another without ever knowing exactly where it will travel next.

And I love your image of those golden threads being woven through societies and cultures. We rarely get to see the whole tapestry, but perhaps faithfulness is partly about adding our small thread and trusting that it matters.

Thank you for this. It's particularly meaningful for me today.
