Books by Paul Ian Clarke

When I began writing Sacred & Secular, I had no particular plans to publish a book. I simply wanted somewhere to share my thoughts about faith, the Bible, and the questions that have accompanied me through life and ministry.

Over time, those individual reflections began to develop into something larger. Readers encouraged me to keep writing, conversations opened up new ideas, and eventually I realised that some of these pieces belonged together in a book.

What began as a collection of individual reflections has now grown into two books, each exploring faith and Scripture from a slightly different perspective.

Sacred & Secular: Finding God in the Ordinary

Discovering faith, meaning and the presence of God in everyday life.

We often imagine that discovering God requires something extraordinary. Perhaps a profound spiritual experience, an answer to prayer, or a moment when everything suddenly makes sense.

But what if God is just as present in the ordinary things we barely notice?

Sacred & Secular: Finding God in the Ordinary brings together around fifty reflections exploring faith, doubt, Scripture and everyday life. Drawing on my experiences as an Anglican priest, alongside a lifelong fascination with the Bible, these reflections offer a different way of looking at familiar stories and the world around us.

Some explore overlooked details in Scripture. Others wrestle with questions about suffering, forgiveness, uncertainty and what it means to live faithfully in a complicated world.

You don’t need to have all the answers to enjoy this book. In fact, I suspect it might be more interesting if you don’t.

Sacred & Secular: Hidden in Plain Sight

Discovering the overlooked details of Scripture that change how we understand familiar Bible stories.

Have you ever read a Bible story countless times, only to notice something you had never seen before?

The Bible is full of surprising details that we often overlook. Sometimes it is an unexpected word, a strange reaction, or a seemingly insignificant moment that changes how we understand an entire passage.

Sacred & Secular: Hidden in Plain Sight takes a fresh look at familiar stories, exploring the historical background, forgotten details and unanswered questions that make Scripture so fascinating.

I have spent years reading, studying and preaching from the Bible, yet I still regularly encounter details that surprise me. Sometimes I discover that something I confidently believed for years wasn't quite right. At other times, a small detail leads me towards an entirely different understanding of a familiar story. Much of this book has grown out of those moments of discovery.

Some chapters explore intriguing details hidden within well-known stories. Others wrestle with difficult passages, challenge familiar interpretations and uncover connections that can change the way we read Scripture.

You don’t need to be a Bible scholar to enjoy this book. All you need is a little curiosity and a willingness to discover that even the stories we think we know may still have something to teach us.
